Democratic Design Days came to a great start with us meeting designers like Piet Hein Eek, Tom Dixon and Chris Stamp. Now it’s time for the next show to begin – revealing coming collaborations. First up Marcus Engman, Design Manager at IKEA Range & Supply.
“Welcome to the middle of nowhere, Älmhult, Sweden!” says Marcus to the 280 or so in the audience, before he tells the basic story of what democratic design is: beautiful form, function for everyday life, great quality, sustainability, and accessibility and illustrates the tools with one bad and two good examples.
“You must have the courage to fail, in order to be successful”, Marcus adds.
The five legs of Democratic Design are super important and goes through all IKEA work and naturally all collaborations. Like the one that are the first of the brand new, up until now, top secret, collabs revealed here and now at Democratic Design Days – with Off-White founder Virgil Abloh!
If you missed the live show – don’t worry! It will be available later today here on IKEA Today. If you can’t wait – check out www.youtube.com/ikea and search for Democratic Design Days 2017.
