The team behind SÄLLSKAP used iconic historical references to develop the collection. How did they bring them into our time? By keeping some of the visual feel but making the collection in contemporary ways and using new techniques. For example IKEA designer Hanna Dalrot has transformed 19th-century Swedish designer Karin Bergöö Larsson’s pot-plant display into a mirror with a contemporary look and function.
Karin Bergöö Larsson has been an inspiration for the SÄLLSKAP collection. Educated as an artist herself, she was also the wife and collaborator of the Swedish painter Carl Larsson. While raising eight children, Karin channelled her artistry into her home which her husband depicted in his iconic paintings. Together they developed a new style – light, elegant and relaxed. She experimented with techniques, breaking with the conventions of the day; designing furniture and weaving textiles that were bold and colourful that today, we recognise as unmistakably Swedish.
